Catriona’s Christmas Services

Catriona Foster our Older People’s Pastor is very busy at this time of year.  Here she tells us what is going on and how we can pray.  Many of us probably know little about this ministry in the community and how many people it reaches.

Listed here is her busy schedule of events for December, ably helped by a team of volunteers. Pray for them all, but especially Catriona as she leads many of the events and plays a large part in organising them.

Mondays 3rd & 10th December – Carol Singing by St John’s Brownies at Timber Mill Court on 3rd and then on 10th December at Lingfield Court, both at 6.30 pm.

Catriona says:  “Praise God for what has become an annual event with Emma James organising her Monday Brownies to entertain the residents at Lingfield Court and Timber Mill Court.  The Brownies are BRILLIANT and not only is this a really enjoyable time, but it serves to further build on the already good relationship we have with these two retirement complexes.  It’s good for the Brownies too – so altogether a win-win situation.”

Monday 10th December 2.30 pm – Carol Service at The Kenrick Centre  which is a  large, new, purpose-built Council Care Centre situated in Grove Park.

Catriona reports that: “This is the second Christmas we will be leading a carol service there.  The service will be largely geared for the residents who have dementia, but we hope that staff, relatives and other service users will join us.  Pray that God will touch the hearts of the residents as the Christmas story is told and familiar carols are sung.”

Pray that all who are present will be impacted by the service.  Pray for the team – Catriona, Alison, Bob, Carolyn, Sheila, Jo, Jennifer, Margaret & Marcus.

Tuesday 11th December 2.30 pm Christmas Carol Service in Wayside Care Home, Bromsgrove  This is a one-off opportunity which came about when Catriona was visiting a lady here.

Catriona tells us: “They have asked us to lead a service because the local churches are unable to help them this year.  Pray that the staff and residents will have a real sense of God’s presence as we sing, pray and think about the Christmas story.  Many of the residents have dementia.”

Pray for the team – Catriona, Bob, Carolyn, Angie, Jennifer.

Tuesday 11th December Christmas Carol Service at 7pm at Timber Mill Court.

Catriona speaking:  “We lead a service at Timber Mill Court every Easter and Christmas and are always made very welcome.  Pray that a good number will be able to attend the service and that they would be responsive to the message.”

Pray for the team – Catriona, Alison, Judith, Sue, Carolyn, Margaret.

Wednesday 12th December  10.30am Christmas Carol Service at Lingfield Court

Catriona tells us: “We lead regular services throughout the year at Lingfield Court with a small number of the residents.  We would love to see additional people joining in, especially for the Christmas service.  Most of the people who meet with us there have attended Prime Time and some attended Pilgrim’s Progress and now attend the current “Growing Faith” course.”

Pray for all the team – Catriona,  Alison, Sue, Margaret & Jo.

Friday 14th December 12.15pm Karis Christmas Party at St John’s

Catriona gives us the details:  “We will be providing a soup and pudding lunch for 40 elderly people who are connected with the Karis Neighbour Scheme.  Entertainment will be provided by the choir from Harborne Primary School.  Pray for the guests that they will have a really enjoyable time and that they will be aware of God’s presence in the building and in the love and welcome shown to them.”

Pray for all who are helping at this event, including those who are helping with transport, and Steve in the kitchen. Pray for the health and safety of all the guests and helpers.

Thursday 20th December 10.30am Midweek Holy Communion at St John’s.

Catriona tells us that:  “The service is always followed by refreshments but we have decided that after the Midweek Communion services in December, January, February & March, baking will also be on sale to raise funds for the youth trip to Nepal.”

Saturday 26th January 2013 Prime Time Reunion for all those who attended in the summer.
